EMV Cards Defined

For those members who have received a new Credit Members Plus MasterCard with the EMV chipPlease note that the new chip cards are PIN preferred, meaning most merchants are going to ask for the PIN number at the terminal. If you do not know your PIN you can call the PIN Now line at 888-886-0083 to choose a new PIN. You will need to provide the primary cardholder’s information including the card number, date of birth (MMYY format), last 4 of SS# and the 3 digits on the back of the card.

WHAT IS EMV?
EMV stands for EuroPay, MasterCard, Visa and it represents microchip technology in your card that increases security. This technology originated in Europe and has been instrumental in preventing the spread of credit and debit card fraud. It’s coming to you in this new card.

HOW DOES EMV WORK?
Members Plus Credit Union accounts are monitored for fraud 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The microchip enhances this process by providing dynamic data at the time of use that cannot be known by someone who steals your card or your card number. Additionally, a microchip is much more difficult to replicate or counterfeit than the old cards with just a magnetic strip.
